Home Weatherization Training

On Thursday, November 13th, The People's Justice Council and Gulf Coast Creation Care are offering a Home WX and Resilience Specialist Training for south Alabama. Participants will become certified in weatherization and complete 8 modules to master strategies to make a home energy efficient and resilient. Training takes place at All Saint Episcopal Stirling Hall 151 South Ann St., Mobile, AL 36606, from 8 a.m.-6 p.m.

The goal of this training is to equip contractors, nonprofit professionals, and volunteers with weatherization certification to address energy efficiency needs in our frontline communities.

To date, the current participants are a contractor that serves Africatown in Mobile County, nonprofit professionals from rural communities throughout south Alabama, representatives from a faith based environmental coalition, and organizations that work with volunteers to ensure veterans, seniors, and those living with disabilities have access to safe, healthy, and energy efficient homes.

Sun Day - A Day of Advocacy for Renewable Energy

Gulf Coast Creation Care is inviting churches in Alabama to host a postcard writing campaign on Sunday, September 21, asking our elected representatives at the Alabama Public Service Commission to update regulations to encourage, rather than deter, solar power in Alabama. We suggest that you host this as an intergenerational event by asking kids (of all ages) to complete the campaign sun logo on one side, using crayons, colored pencils, markers, etc. (see examples here). Then ask adults to write a short message to our elected public service commissioners, using the prompts provided on this document. The postcards require first class postage, which you can ask members to supply, or collect the postcards and mail them from the church. Email us to receive a set of postcards to use with your congregation.
